In a blog about portable video, we opined about the impact of video in the new iPhone. Its portability and easy of use surely make it a game changer in many ways.
But, now Apple has given that same capability to a different line of portable media devices, the iPod Nano. Doesn’t this run counter to the idea of one device for all music, phone, data, web and video?
Maybe not. Consider that the power range of the phone is a very important issue for users. If, while using your phone to video things, you run out of power, you lose your lifeline. By combining music and video into a cheap device like the Nano, Apple may have hit the sweet spot for the many media uses. And, in place of a Flip camera (which I love), it has greater capacity and the convenience of iTunes synching for social media sites.
As a reminder of its seamier side, LifeTime Fitness in the Twin Cities has banned them from locker rooms.
All the more evidence that the revolution will be televised and the media is us.
