Social News Update: DOMA Edition

Each week we publish a roundup of the top social news.

  • Rumors are flying about in-development product Facebook Reader, but the reports focus more on what it’s not than what it could be. TechCrunch and the WSJ are reporting the experience (no one is sure whether this will be a standalone app or an evolution of the mobile Newsfeed) will be focused primarily on visuals. Facebook is likely looking to get into the social news business as users spend a lot of time reading news online, thus allowing Facebook to get those users to spend that time with Facebook.
  • Facebook announced it will now do more to audit pages where advertiser content is featured. This comes after women’s groups requested Facebook take down misogynistic content.
  • Facebook no longer restricts cover photo text to 20 percent of the image.
  • Page admins can now upload their own external photos for links, rather than being required to use the auto-generated images.
