We are nearing the end of Q1 and with so much to talk about, we’re going to focus on discussing social media changes. The digital world received quite a few updates and new additions in March. Let’s take a deep dive into what’s new with TikTok, Reddit, Instagram and Facebook.

TikTok adds new external link feature

What is it?

To establish the validity of a particular statement or their overall video content, TikTok previously only allowed users to link to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a very popular source in which millions of people visit daily to discover information. But this has now changed.

Why does it matter?

Not only will TikTokers be able to link to more sources to support their case, they’ll be able to link to your website. With TikTok’s recent popularity, this is a great add-on for brands looking to add the platform to their strategy. If you’re working with an influencer, while they are promoting your product, they’ll be able to link directly to it.

Trending ads on Reddit

What is it?

As Reddit begins to improve its advertising methods, the forum will allow brands to advertise on it’s Search Tab and Daily Feed. This is similar to how users see promoted posts on Twitter. This will allow content to be placed in front of more Redditors.

Why does it matter?

Reddit’s Daily Feed and Search Tab are seen by many individuals each day, and this is a method for marketers to help content reach more of their audience in another avenue. If your campaign isn’t working on one platform, you can experiment with the next.

Instagram Live re-share option

What is it?

When there’s an event happening in real-time, we tend to go live on Instagram. This allows followers to get engaged in the midst of the social gathering. Instagram has been testing a new feature for Instagrammers to re-share live videos to IGTV.

Why does it matter?

When an Instagram Live video ends, it is kept in your archive, but your followers will not be able to view it. With this new option, you’ll be able to have more content for IGTV but you can also post the video with a “See What You Missed” type of caption, for example. Your followers won’t miss a beat and still be in tune with your content!

Post your Facebook Stories on Instagram

What is it?

Posting to Facebook from Instagram (feed or stories) has always been an option but not posting to Instagram from Facebook. With this new feature currently being tested, posting Facebook Stories to IG Stories will be available.

Why does it matter?

This is not only a great way to cross-promote content for your brand, but also a way to share those precious moments in life with your aunt on Facebook and Millennial cousin on IG. This is easier to push content to both platforms without having to do it separately.

A common topic for this blog is putting your content in front of more eyes. On TikTok, users can now link outside of Wikipedia, making it effortless for those to go straight to your site. Reddit, Instagram and Facebook are all allowing you to do more on each platform so that your reach can go beyond your target audience. Don’t miss out on these updates because any one could be the next big tactic to grow your social media presence.
